Fall for Office Fashion
Fashion Week begins in New York City this week, marking the end of summer and the beginning of another fall season. Office professionals everywhere are attacking their closets, removing those summery sleeveless tops and shaking out their favorite sweater-weather clothes. Fashion is perhaps the office professional's greatest weapon against the oppressive forces of office culture.
Being a professional means curtailing what you say and how you say it at the office. But it doesn't mean you can't express your sense of self through your choice of clothes. Of course, there are limitations, but savvy fashionistas find ways to abide by the corporate dress code while also showcasing their passion for style, personal expression and uniqueness. Fall fashion at the office is the closest any of us get to those back-to-school days when everyone trotted out new clothes at the same time.
So dare to be different. When we're young the most important thing in life is being like everyone else--fitting in, of being part of the group. Now that you're an adult, however, it's time to be yourself. Sadly, the routine of professional life has many employees beaten down to the point where they quit trying. They wear the same shirt every Tuesday, the same pants every Friday. You can see a sense of defeat in their clothes and on their faces. But not you. You're still alive. You love how you look in that vibrant scarf and skirt. You know your clothes can improve your mood better than any compliment from your boss or energy drink. You still care, so go for it. Get your fashion freak on.
