How to Deal with the Office Drama Queen
The office drama queen. If your workplace has one, you know it—and so does everyone else at the office. Drama queens are pretty tough to miss, as they like being the center of attention and tend to make enough of a fuss about even little things that it is tough for co-workers to ignore.
Drama queens may provide for some office entertainment (their over-the-top antics can often be amusing). But they can also be a real distraction when you need to get important stuff done. Plus, it can get annoying when someone makes a melodramatic big deal over every minor little problem throughout the day.
So how to handle this dramatic diva? You can start by just ignoring her. Drama queens crave an audience and if nobody is watching they may decide it would be a waste of time to make a scene. If it's impossible to ignore her dramatics, it might be best just to sacrifice a few minutes to give her the attention she wants—if she will then be quiet and get back to work.
This article provides other tips for handling a drama queen, such as focusing on her positive contributions and complimenting her on those traits.
