How Love Languages Apply in the Office
We all know that communication is critical in any sort of relationship, whether it’s a romantic pairing or a professional team. The key is figuring out what style of communication will be most effective and appropriate for the particular situation and parties involved.
As this article discusses, communication styles (known as languages) that are designed to be used in romantic relationships can also be applied to situations with co-workers. Some examples:
Emphasis on quality time. Sometimes the most important thing you can do to improve or maintain a relationship is just to let the other person know they are important or special. Take the time to tell a co-worker how much you appreciate their contributions to the team.
Kind gestures. Just as we appreciate it when our spouse makes an extra effort to lighten our load at home, your boss or co-worker will be grateful if you take the time to help out a little bit when you know they’re having a challenging week.
