The Importance of Connecting with Colleagues
When making important career choices we deliberate over a litany of questions that impact our careers and the overall quality of our lives. How much money does the job pay? Where is it located? How long is the commute? In addition to those questions, however, you should ask yourself another crucial question: Do I believe in this job?
This article explains, “Be a part of something you believe in. This could be anything. People may take an active role in their local city council, find refuge in religious faith, join a social club supporting causes they believe in, or find passion in their careers. In each case, the physiological outcome is the same. They engage themselves in something they strongly believe in. This engagement brings happiness and meaning into their lives.”
Ideally, we’d all be working in jobs that offer us deep and meaningful spiritual rewards. If your actual work doesn’t do this, however, you can still find something at work to believe in because you are around people. Wherever people are around this is the potential for spiritual reward. Bond with your colleagues by engaging them.
Do you share the same religious views as some of your colleagues? If so, organize a group that meets once a week to discuss your faith. Do you love fishing? Find out who else loves fishing at work and plan an outing. Or perhaps organize a book club. By connecting with your colleagues on a deeper level, you’ll find that your job becomes more rewarding as well. And that’s a major life improvement.
