The Importance of Surrounding Yourself with Positive People
As the economy continues to struggle toward a better day, so do the human beings trapped in it. The recession and its demoralizing wake have been around for so long now that they have defined a new normal for millions of Americans, and that new normal is one nobody ever wanted. Anyone can stay positive for the short term, but as the tough days stretch into tough weeks, months or even years, it’s difficult to remain optimistic—especially if you’ve been unemployed for a while.
For the most part, Americans are not spoiled or self-entitled people who wake up in the morning and expect life to just work out for them. Americans are willing to work and for long hours, especially these days. So the despair many people are feeling is real and appropriate. But the trick in life is not to succumb or let tough times overwhelm you. And for the unemployed, this means surrounding themselves with positive people.
This article explains, “So, it’s important to surround yourself with people who are positive, supportive, and who care about you. Try to focus on the good feedback you receive. Whether it’s from past interviews, that professor who loved you, or that organization you volunteered for, having someone tell you that it’s not you, it’s the economy, really does wonders to revamp your confidence level.”
Better days are indeed ahead, perhaps right around the corner. However, many office professionals have been down for so long they simply don’t see the blessings of the future; in fact, they don’t even know what they’re having for lunch—it depends on how much change they can scrape up from their couches. But having someone around who isn’t going to slap your head while life is kicking you in the teeth is imperative to moving forward. Stay positive, and do this by surrounding yourself with positive people.
