Reach a Point of Work-Life Balance
Trying to achieve a state of better work-life balance? For most people, that is easier said than done. Some even say it is impossible. While a lot may depend on your specific employer and your personal situation, there are some things you can do to help make work-life balance a more realistic goal.
This article provides some quick tips to help you in your quest for work-life balance. Not surprisingly, a big thing is to disconnect from the office and the technology that ties you to it. This might not be easy, especially if you tend to find it difficult to resist checking your email or answering your cell phone. So do whatever you have to do to truly disconnect, even if it means shutting devices off or storing them somewhere out of sight.
It is also important to set clear boundaries and stick to them. If you make it clear to clients or co-workers that you won’t take business calls during evenings or weekends, they will soon learn not to bother you during those times.
Another strategy that can be effective is to make sure you have solid plans or commitments (ideally, ones you are looking forward to) in your personal time. This will make you more motivated to leave work at a reasonable hour, and make you less likely to let work issues impose on your free time.
