Regaining Trust After a Gaffe

You missed a deadline, upset a client or provided the wrong figures for a presentation. While all you might feel like doing is hiding in the storeroom, owning up to your mistake is critical. Follow these damage-control steps to rebuild trust:

Admit and apologize

A brief statement acknowledging your error and a genuine, face-to-face “I’m sorry” is due to whomever was affected. This action shows that you are taking responsibility and not trying to hide anything or blame others.
