Should You Ditch Your Job to Follow Your Dream?
What do you want to do with your life? Most of us have a dream project or a goal we are passionate about—but we figure it will only become a reality if we win the lottery or otherwise become financially comfortable enough to leave a reliable paycheck behind.
Well, life is short and (let’s face it) the odds of hitting that jackpot are pretty slim. So maybe it’s time to reconsider whether there’s any way to make that dream a reality. If you are toiling away at a job you hate, this should give you extra motivation to come up with a plan to follow your passion.
But first you need to think this through. As this article says, there are issues on both sides to consider. The biggest concern of course is money. Leaving a reliable source of income for something unpredictable is a scary thought. Consider whether there are ways to generate some income from your passion project in a relatively short time. You need to be honest with yourself about whether you have the self-discipline to keep moving toward your goal every day when you no longer have a boss breathing down your neck.
On the plus side, doing something you love will likely do wonders for your spirit, not to mention your physical health. And if you use your business smarts, it’s possible that you can build a very successful (and profitable) business out of your passion. A huge benefit, of course, is the personal satisfaction and fulfillment you will get out of doing something that brings you joy.
