Tech Tip: Time Doctor
Wasting time can really affect your productivity—and can also keep you from achieving the kind of results that impress your boss and help you get better job security.
Time Doctor software is designed to help you see how you and your co-workers are spending your time at work. If you need to track the amount of manhours you spent on a particular project or task, this program makes it easy (you can even record screenshots if needed).
One feature that can be helpful or annoying, depending on your view: when you are supposed to be working, the system will monitor to detect times when you may be swayed by distractions—say, spending time on YouTube. It will then give you a nudge, reminding you that you should be preparing for an important meeting.
If you manage people, the reporting tools will provide some interesting insights as to how your team members use their time. The “poor time use” stats will be especially interesting, showing you how much time employees are spending on Facebook and other sites. (And if you wonder where all of your time goes and why you can’t seem to get anything accomplished, checking out your own reports may provide some answers.)
The program is designed for maximum flexibility, allowing you to customize settings and turn many features on or off when needed. And it is very easy to turn the program off completely for times when you don’t want your activities tracked.
