Tips to Manage Stress at the Office
As most office professionals know, the office can be a stressful place. Demanding customers, heavy workloads, tight deadlines and, yes, frustrating co-workers can all add to our stress level. There are some “wish list” ways to make the office a less stressful place—reducing your workload, giving you more time off and making the entire staff happy and pleasant—but those are things that are probably beyond your control (not to mention unrealistic).
But there are quite a few small things you can do to make your workplace a little less stressful. And even that small change can make a big improvement in your outlook and mental state.
This article lists some quick ways to lessen your stress level. A few simple tips:
Recognize the source of stress. You know the old saying, admitting you have a problem is the first step toward solving it? Well, often it can be helpful just to acknowledge the thing that is stressing you out.
Get away from the hot spot. If you can get away from the stressful situation for even a few minutes, that can give you a chance to take a breather and calm down. Ideally, get out of the office—say, by going outside for a quick walk.
Find a sympathetic friend to lend an ear. If you have a friend you can vent to, this can often be a therapeutic release.
