Why Working Hard Isn’t a Selfish Act
We all know that balance is the key to maintaining a desirable quality of life. However, we also know that achieving that balance is easier said than done, especially in difficult financial times where most of us are working harder and longer than ever for less money. Balancing your professional life and personal life is a challenge, and it has been the ruin of many relationships.
This article elaborates, “It’s a struggle that working parents have to deal with constantly: more money versus more time with your family. It’s such a classic struggle to face and yet it’s never easy to decide. No matter how many others are going through the same thing, it still feels complicated and stressful.”
The best way to manage the stress of balancing your job and your personal relationships is to acknowledge the struggle. Many office professionals who work hard also subscribe to a fairy tale version of life that only leads to frustration and conflict. Be honest with yourself and others. Tell those who love you and are affected by your overbearing responsibilities about the challenges you face.
It’s easier for people to be angry with you when they don’t know the realities of your of situation. Being open with others about your professional frustrations will help others empathize and sympathize with you and consequently connect with you on a personal level. After all, most of us are working for others—our kids, our families and our loved ones. There is nothing selfish about working hard for others, just make sure they know this.
